{"id":37623,"date":"2019-09-05T08:42:03","date_gmt":"2019-09-05T06:42:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ctelift.com\/en\/?p=37623"},"modified":"2019-09-05T14:53:52","modified_gmt":"2019-09-05T12:53:52","slug":"consiglio-al-noleggiatore-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.ctelift.com\/en\/consiglio-al-noleggiatore-3\/","title":{"rendered":"RENTAL TIPS: IPAF LAUNCHES 2019 STREET SMART SAFETY CAMPAIGN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Working safely on or next to roads is the new campaign from the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF), launched at the bauma 2019 expo in Messe M\u00fcnchen, Munich, Germany, 8-14 April.<\/p>\n<p>IPAF\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipaf.org\/en\/resource-library\/street-smart\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"b2028868-500e-40fe-87c3-c0b9c404c7c5\">Street Smart<\/a>\u00a0safety campaign outlines the dangers of using Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) on or next to roads. With the risk of being struck by a passing vehicle such as bus or truck, prior planning is needed so the MEWP can operate safely.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Whiteman, CEO &amp; MD of IPAF, comments: \u201cMEWPs are designed to safely conduct temporary work at height in just about every environment, including on roads or in public places. However, being hit by a bus or truck while operating a MEWP is a leading cause of serious injury or death, according to our accident analysis.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Delahunt, IPAF\u2019s Technical &amp; Safety Director, says: \u201cThese accidents are almost always catastrophic. It is critical to segregate the working area to have separation from traffic. Operators should ensure they are seen by using signs, cones, beacons and high-vis clothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Key points of guidance in the campaign include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Plan ahead<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Assess risk; develop and use a traffic management scheme.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be visible<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Wear hi-vis PPE to position cones\/signs. Ensure vehicles are conspicuous (use flashing beacons\/rear chevrons) and work areas well lit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Manage traffic<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Use temporary traffic lights or close roads to separate the working area. Use signs and cones for maximum warning to oncoming vehicles.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Implement an exclusion zone<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Segregate the working area from passing vehicles. Position the MEWP so it does not overhang into traffic.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Load and unload safely<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 in a well-lit area, away from traffic or obstructions. When unloading next to a road make sure it is segregated from traffic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Andrew Delahunt adds: \u201cThis campaign highlights key risks and how to avoid them. We hope that, along with previous IPAF campaigns such as Plan Ahead for Safety and Back to Basics, it will continue to help people use powered access safely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Further guidance is available on using MEWPs alongside roads with additional detail on risks and safe operating procedures.
